Love Renewed after Plastic Surgery

Study: Better Sex after the Knife!

Flirting with Sex
Women who have undergone plastic surgery experience more and renewed whoopee in their love lives. So reveals a new study. Released just in time for Valentine’s Day, the study was done on patients of Pittsburgh plastic surgeon Guy M. Stofman, M.D. and appears in the January-February issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, a publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Says Dr. Stofman: “The survey shows the power of plastic surgery to affect people’s lives in the best possible way.” Dr. Stofman and co-author Dr. Timothy Neavin sent questionnaires to patients who had undergone a face, breast or body procedure in his office in 2001 and 2002. Seventy women, aged 17 to 60, responded. But the researchers did not know their race or martial status. (Dr. Stofman adds that guys tend to be more apathetic about surveys but also experience the same leaps in self-esteem and positive body image after surgical rejuvenation.)

“Men were indirectly involved in the study because they became more enthusiastic and ardent after the women in their lives had rejuvenation surgery,” he says.

Unless you’ve been living on the moon, you probably already know that well-done plastic surgery almost always results in a person becoming more confident because she is more satisfied -- and often thrilled -- with her new looks and overall appearance. The survey revealed 50 percent of the study group gained svelte figures via body contouring procedures like liposuction; a little over 80 percent of the respondents had breast augmentation or a breast lift. “The subjects reported one of the next steps in the process after gaining more self-esteem was usually new clothing,” says Dr. Stofman. “Actually, make that revealing new clothing.”

Cupid started firing his arrows when the newly slimmed or enhanced women strutted through the home in those classier togs with her shoulders back and hither-come-yon attitude intact. Suddenly, she finds the guy in her life has lost interest in whatever ball game is being televised. Then, guys being guys, more touching and caressing ensue whereupon nature often takes its course, as often as not, in the middle of the day.

Says Dr. Stofman: “Some women who had body procedures like liposuction or body shaping -- in which loose sagging skin is removed -- said they used to leave the room or turn out the lights to change clothes. But after the procedure, they did not mind being seen naked in the light.”

The subjects also reported more intense lovemaking. The survey additionally revealed 41 percent of women who came out of surgery with better bodies were willing to try more unconvential positions while making amour.

“I don’t think any of the study subjects had more or better sex as a primary reason for getting plastic surgery,” says Dr. Stofman. “At the start, virtually all patients only wanted to feel better about themselves. So a hotter sex life was just another added perk.” For women who had procedures above the neck, things weren’t quite as steamy. Respondents who underwent facelifts and rhinoplasty were less likely to report a sizzling personal life following surgery, but they were an older group – in the 51 to 60 age range – while the patients who had breast and body procedures generally ranged in the 41 to 51 age group. Nonetheless, the facial surgery patients also showed an uptick in intimacy.

Here are some findings from the study:

Breast group
(25 breast augmentations; 1 breast reduction with lift. Age range: 26 to 40.)
Increased lovemaking after surgery………………... 46%
Dressing more provocatively…………………….….56%
Improved sexual satisfaction………………………...83%

Body Group
(20 tummy tucks, four thigh and waist liposuctions and one labia reduction. Age range: 41 to 50.)
Increased lovemaking after surgery…………………..20%
Dressing more provocatively…………………………60%
Improved sexual satisfaction………………………….68%
See improvements in partner’s sexual satisfaction……56%

Conclusion? “Our patients’ beauty is more than just skin deep,” writes Dr. Stofman. “Positive outcomes from surgical changes can truly alter one’s life.”
