AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR DERMATOLOGIC SURGERY

SCIENTIFIC MEETING SHOWCASES NEW CLINICAL TECHNIQUES, RESEARCH ADVANCES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

SCHAUMBURG, IL - October 24, 2001. Dramatic advances in dermatologic surgery, ranging from new medical technologies to innovative cosmetic skin treatments, headlined the 28th Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) in Dallas, Texas, on October 25-28, 2001.

The ASDS Annual Meeting is the largest and most comprehensive educational program devoted exclusively to dermatologic surgery. Featuring experts from around the world, the premier gathering commemorates discovery in skin surgery research and clinical practice.

"Dermatologic surgery is the fastest growing subspecialty of dermatology," says ASDS President Harold J. Brody, MD. "Our annual meeting offers attendees an opportunity to broaden their understanding of the basics as well as to share knowledge on the latest advances in the field, ensuring safe and effective patient care."

Scientific Highlights
The diverse program consists of original research reports, mini-symposia, in-depth focus seminars and abstract forums on laser technology, skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, vein treatments, liposuction, hair restoration, skin cancer and more. Invited guest lecturers spoke on periocular and facial rejuvenation, laser eyelid surgery, and periocular and facial reconstruction. Capping off the educational agenda were clinical poster exhibits and technical exhibits displaying products and services specific to the field.

Highlights of this year’s scientific program included presentations on:

Long-term efficacy of traditional and high-tech vein treatments

Wrinkle reduction using two new techniques introduced to the United States in 2001:
fat autograph muscle injection (FAMI) and Myobloc‰ (botulinum B) therapy

New research in lasers: Spotlight on the new radiodermaplasty technique and subsurface technologies for facial rejuvenation and acne scars

Safety guidelines for pregnant women undergoing anesthesia and patients using herbal medicines
