Zapping Hair!

Laser hair removal, also known as Photoepilation, is an amazing option for people with unwanted body hair! It is now being done as an alternative to the more painful “electrolysis.” If you despise shaving on a regular basis, this procedure is the answer to your agony! After Laser hair removal, not only will you benefit from the appearance of smooth hairless skin, you will also save money because you won’t have to purchase expensive shaving products EVER AGAIN!!. My bikini line and underarms ARE free from unwanted hair and razor rash! It was amazing!

I was fortunate enough to receive laser hair removal as a gift from a friend before I got married! Before this “gift”, I had never even considered laser hair removal! To my surprise, it has been one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. I would highly recommend this procedure to both men and women!

The procedure itself is very fast! You are taken into a procedure room so that the physician can determine what type of skin you have. Different skin color and sensitivity determine what setting is used on the laser. The ideal patient has lighter skin with dark hair that needs to be removed. If you are prone to keloids (large scars) then you should seek other ways of removing unwanted hair. Once the skin type is determined, a proper laser setting is selected, and the hair that is to be removed is trimmed to about 1 mm in length.

Sometimes people prefer to have a topical anesthetic applied before the procedure begins, but in my case, I did not have any anesthetic applied! If you can tolerate a sensation that is similar to snapping a rubber band against the skin (that only lasts a couple of minutes for the entire procedure), then you can also skip the anesthetics! Both the patient and the practitioner will be wearing eye protection during the procedure. As the practitioner applies the laser to the areas for hair removal, they will carefully observe the skin to make sure that there is no adverse reactions (such as excessive reddening of the skin, obvious burning of the skin, or unresponsive hair follicles). You may note a sulfur type smell as the hair follicles are damaged.

After the procedure is over, it may look like the unwanted hair is still there! Don’t worry, this is completely normal! The hair sometimes takes a couple of days to fall off, but will eventually result in smooth, hairless skin! To relieve discomfort after the procedure, I was instructed to apply aloe gel (over the counter) and ice packs! Discomfort from the procedure only lasted a couple of hours in my case, and the hair fell out completely within three days (can take up to 2 to 3 weeks

It should be noted however, that one treatment will not last forever! It is suggested that sessions are repeated in intervals every three to four weeks up to 5 sessions, and then every three months for the remainder of the year! If you don’t think that repeated sessions are for you, there are still benefits of a single session! I only did it one time, and did not have to shave for 6 months! It was just enough to keep me free of razors and razor bumps for the summer! Even if you do not have repeated sessions, when hair does grow back, it grows back much more sparse than prior to the procedure! But, if you are fortunate enough to have the recommended amount of sessions, you will remain free of unwanted hair FOREVER!!
